Rotary invests in the young people of the Maranoa. From road safety and leadership to science, the sea and the start of adult life — we help local students access life-changing experiences, and we help cover the cost.
Each program is open to Maranoa young people — and the Rotary Club of Roma sponsors local students to take part. Tap “Register interest” and we'll be in touch.
Rotary Youth Driver Awareness
👤 High school students, Years 10–12
A powerful road-safety program that shapes the attitudes and decisions of young drivers and passengers — led by police, driving instructors and road-safety specialists.
Our club: Rotary clubs support RYDA to help keep young drivers across the region safe on our roads.
Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment
👤 Secondary students, ~14–17
A weekend live-in camp that builds confidence, resilience and life skills through hands-on activities, teamwork and new friendships.
Our club: The club sponsors local students to attend, covering the cost so any young person can take part. Isabella McDonell completed RYPEN in 2026.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
👤 Emerging leaders, ~18–30
An intensive leadership development experience — from one-day seminars to week-long camps — for young people ready to grow their skills and lead in their community.
Our club: The club identifies and sponsors promising young leaders from the Maranoa to attend.
National Youth Science Forum
👤 Year 12 program (apply in Year 11)
A residential STEM program at the ANU and University of Queensland each January, opening students' eyes to study and careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Our club: The club sponsors a Maranoa student each year to help with the program fee — making this national opportunity reachable from the bush.
Windeward Bound — Tall Ship Voyage
👤 Young people aged 14–18
A sail-training voyage aboard a traditional tall ship where young people learn to crew, keep watch, navigate and climb the rigging — building courage, teamwork and self-belief at sea.
⚓ Returns 2027 — register your interest now
Our club: In 2025 the Rotary Club of Roma proudly sponsored local students Isabella McDonell and Riley Groves on their Windeward Bound voyage. The ship sails again in 2027 — we'd love to send more Maranoa young people.
Rotary Youth Transition Seminar
👤 School leavers & recent graduates
A District 9630 seminar that prepares school graduates for the “Serious Game of Life” — money, work, relationships and independence — as they step into the adult world.
Our club: The club sponsors Maranoa school-leavers to attend this highly-regarded program each year.
In 2025 the Rotary Club of Roma sponsored local students Isabella McDonell and Riley Groves aboard a Windeward Bound tall-ship voyage — learning to crew, navigate and lead at sea. This is what your support makes possible.
